“The 100 Goalie Day in South Florida”

Be part of Lacrosse Goaltending history as the Florida Youth Lacrosse Foundation welcomes 100 lacrosse goaltenders and coaches to our 14th Annual Florida Preseason Lacrosse Goalie School.

Join us Saturday January 5, 2019 as we continue our tradition of providing the finest lacrosse goaltender training available for our favorite position in the game.  In order to train 100 goaltenders the FYLF is bringing together the largest and most experienced group of male and female goaltending coaches you will ever find in Florida. There will be more than twenty men and woman instructors that have played and taught the position working with our next generation of stoppers. This group of outstanding teachers includes two former NCAA Goalies of the Year, a current MLL Head Coach, two MLL goaltenders, eight current NCAA assistant coaches, and three current NCAA head coaches.

This one day event is designed to develop and fine tune every goalies individual technique in an environment that is dedicated solely to teaching the position.  Boys and girls at all skill and experience levels are welcome.   Coaches at all levels are invited for free to spend the day on the field with our instructors to learn how to teach and improve their programs goalie play. Due to increased enrollment the 2017 School will feature five tracks.

The 2019 Goalie School will feature four unique training classes.

  1. A stand alone Girls Goaltending Skills Class directed by Babson College Head Woman’s Lacrosse Coach Michelle Smith.  Coach Smith is a nationally recognized teacher of the game, a former All-American, and NCAA Goalie of the Year.

  2. A stand alone Boys Goaltending Skills Class directed by Endicott College Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach Eric Hagarty.  Coach Hagarty is a frequent lecturer on goalie play, a former All-American, and a current MLL goaltender for the Boston Cannons.

  3.  “Starting the Offense” Class led by St. Anselm College Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach Mike Sciamanna. Coach Sciamanna is an expert on offensive strategy and skill development and will work with every participant in small groups to “prepare for the moments after the save”.

  4. Video Analysis Class will be directed by the MLL Boston Cannons Head Coach Sean Quirk. A former All-American and NCAA Goalie of the Year, Coach Quirk will work one-on-one as time allows to visually review individual goaltending techniques.

Highlights of this year’s school include:

  • The return of The “Spin Ball Wizard”......a safe way to increase reaction time and build muscle memory.  The Wizard is a unique piece of equipment used by the FYLF Goalie School and a great teaching aide.

  • Lunch will be provided by the FYLF so our goalies can maximize their time on the field with our instructors.

  • Our free “Coaches Track” program for experienced or new coaches.  The “hands on program” is designed to teach coaches the fundamentals of the position and how to work with their goalies in practice to improve their play.

  • Our first ever Parents Session!  "Raising and Supporting a Happy Goaltender" designed to provide information and answer querstions that all Goaltender parents have.

  • Our goalie stick repair and restringing team will be set up early to review equipment and help create great pockets for improved play.

  • Equipment Donation and Exchange – clean out the garage and bring sticks, gloves, and chest protectors that aren’t being used so we can make them available to another player.

We encourage everyone to register early to secure a place in the school. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.  We look forward to seeing you and your players on January 6th.

Director FYLF Goalie School
